TASL Kicking Cactus Cup Recap

Saturday, May 3, 2025
Kino Sports Complex North

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the TASL Kicking Cactus Coed Cup, a 7v7 shootout under the sun at Kino North. The competition was tight, the vibes were strong, and the goals kept coming. Every team played three matches, and every player brought the energy.

Congratulations to our tournament champions: Lobos

The day didn’t end with the final whistle. After the tournament, players stayed to catch FC Tucson vs. Selección Tucson XI under the lights. With free match tickets, food and drink specials, and a fireworks finale, it was a full-on soccer celebration from start to finish.

Thanks to all who played, supported, and helped make this event another one to remember. Until next time, keep kicking!

Competition Format and 7v7 Rules

This soccer tournament is designed to promote fun, community, and quality competition. The tournament will follow a Round Robin format where teams compete within their respective divisions. Each team will play 3 matches. All matches will be played in accordance with the official soccer rules, with specific adaptations for the 7v7 format (see below). Teams are expected to exhibit fair play and respect towards all participants, ensuring a positive experience for all. By participating in this tournament, teams agree to adhere to these rules and uphold the spirit of the game.

Teams will accrue points based on their performance in each match:

  • Win: 3 points
  • Tie: 1 point
  • Loss: 0 points

In the event that two or more teams are tied in points at the end of the Round Robin stage, the following criteria will be used to determine the ranking:

  1. Sportsmanship: The team with the best record for sportsmanship will be given priority. Sportsmanship is assessed based on conduct on and off the field, including behavior towards referees, and opponents, and adherence to the rules of the game.

  2. Goal Differential: If teams remain tied after evaluating sportsmanship, the next criterion will be goal differential. This is calculated as the difference between goals scored and goals conceded across all matches. The team with the higher goal differential will be ranked higher.

Rules:

  • 7-player lineup typically is 1 goalkeeper (man or woman), with  3 men (max at a time) and 3 women field players.
  • 13-player roster minimum, 6 of which should be women.
  • Teams must wear numbered uniforms. Referees will award/track yellow and red cards.
  • 1 Red Card = Removal from current match and suspension from 2nd match.
  • 2 Red Cards = Tournament Disqualification
  • Competitive Division: 3 Yellow Cards in Consecutive games = 1 Red
  • Keepers cannot punt the ball ever and cannot throw the ball IN THE AIR beyond midfield. If it occurs, it is a turnover at midfield. Shots on goal only count within the attacking half.
  • There is no offside. No slide tackling. Balls are kicked in, not thrown (like indoor).
  • Free substitution policy. One player must exit before the next player can step onto the pitch at midfield on the player side. Teams will be on same side of field separated by the halfway line.
